So sorry...this 2019 camp is now cancelled - see home page.
Booking Conditions
Please read this page before completing the booking form (at the bottom of the page)
We really want you to consciously agree to supporting the camp community to run smoothly so although the conditions listed below are a bit lengthy – please read and sign your agreement to them on the booking and ask all members of your party to do the same (reading out any relevant bits to the young people in your group). If for some reason you find yourself unable to agree to what we ask, please contact us to discuss.
NVC intentions
- We ask that you come with the intention to create together and be actively involved in camp community.
- At whatever level of experience you have, we ask that you come with the intention to listen within the consciousness of NVC and the compassion in your heart when you or others don’t manage it.
- Also, to come with the intention to take the risk to ‘show up’ (by this we mean something like ‘sharing authentically what is going on for you in the moment – including making requests’).
- Respect for the land, any local domestic animals and wildlife
- Please come knowing that, for the duration of the camp we will be the temporary stewards of this land. Please come with the intention to care for it and respect the wishes of the landowners. We will endeavour to recycle what we can and use non-polluting cleaning products etc. We ask that you do the same.
Food
A simple vegetarian lunch and dinner will be offered and is included in the price of the camp. We can cater for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets (when pre-arranged). If you have other dietary requirements, you will need to discuss this at point of booking to see whether it will be possible for our chef to cater for you.
Breakfast of cereals and toast together with teas and coffee will be provided.
The community kitchen will be off-bounds to anyone other than the chef and his/her team and will be kept vegetarian only – people can cook whatever they choose on their own stoves.
Meal times
Lunch will be served at 1pm and dinner at 6.45pm
Pets
Sorry, apart from one specific dog who has been coming to each camp for seven years, the land owner has requested no dogs.
Community tasks (food prep, cleaning etc)
In order to run a smooth, enjoyable and healthy camp, small teams will be created each day to help with the everyday tasks of living together. This will include jobs such as food prep and clear-up, keeping communal areas tidy, keeping bathroom/toilet areas clean and stocked up, lighting fires etc. We hope to model how working together in this way can be fun and enjoyable.
Empathy groups + Morning Circles
At the start of the camp we will be appointing people to an empathy group. We have experienced many ways of putting people into groups and have concluded that there is no perfect way! We will try to make sure that every group has at least one person who has sufficient empathy skills to help others who are newer to the idea of giving/receiving empathy. If you are unhappy with the group you have been appointed to, it is your responsibility (and NVC practice!) to speak up and request a change. We will set aside a time between 9-9.45am each morning for these groups to happen (of course, you can agree with your group to have more than one a day, change the time etc). If you have come with friends/family please state at the time of booking whether you would like to be together or separate in your empathy groups.
Each morning between 10am and 11am we will have a group circle to connect as a group and decide the day together. Our intention is to support a balance of free time and focus groups happening each day.
‘Camp Time’
Taking the initiative from ‘Dance Camp Wales’, we are have been experimenting with making Spirit of NVC Camp time one hour ahead of British Summer Time. Overall this has been a positive experience for most people. So we will ask everyone to advance their watches one hour on arrival and change them back on departure. For more info on why we hope this will support the camp please see our FAQs page.
Curfews
In order to support rest time, you are asked to agree to using quiet voices and refraining from using electronic (including music) devises and playing outdoor games after 11pm (camp time) at night and before 7.30am – especially around areas where people sleep (tents and dorms).
Camp hazards
There are some natural hazards in the camp (such as an unfenced pond, and an open fire), you come in the agreement that you take full responsibility for yourself and any minors that are in your charge in the case of accidents.
Alcohol/drugs
We ask you to agree to not bringing or consuming any recreational drugs onto the camp site
We also ask that you keep alcohol consumption to a minimum or not at all. This is difficult to be observational about, so we trust you use your common sense judgement about what we mean by this. If there is any triggering for you about others’ use of alcohol, we ask that you seek support within the group.
Mobile phones/electronic games etc
We want this camp to be about connecting with each other (the people in the camp). To support this we ask that you keep the use of electronic devises to a minimum.
Childcare (please read even if you are not coming with children)
This is a camp that we create together. There will be no organised childcare in place.
Please, if you need support with children/dependants look around to the camp community for support – speak up in the morning circle if needed. Practice seeing your requests as gifts to the group. If you don’t have dependants with you and/or you are already well supported, please come with an openness to supporting others in need.
Special needs?
We have two single rooms available (at no extra cost). These will be prioritised on a first come first serve basis for people who have special needs that mean they cannot camp or stay in a dormitory.
Do you need to arrive a day early to aid travel?
Please discuss with Peter or Penny about this.
